the CHAKRA SYSTEM
Emotion: the communication link
If what you think has an effect on how you feel, then it follows that there's a point of interface. A place where the non-physical communicates with the physical, the formless with form. That point is the physical sensation/reaction caused by your thoughts. Your emotions are the link between who you are in your formless state, or pure consciousness, and you in your formed state, or your body. In this way, your emotions can act as a guidance system as you navigate life wanting to point yourself in the direction of a happiness.
When your outer life is in harmony with your inner life, you experience the positive emotions of love, appreciation, joy, happiness, enthusiasm, etc. When your outer life is out of balance with your inner life, you can experience the negative emotions of doubt, worry, frustration, blame, jealousy, etc. Your emotions, then, can generally be categorized as either good or bad. If you are feeling good, you're headed in the right direction. And if you're feeling bad, something needs adjusting because feeling good is what we want.
Feeling good is creating heaven on earth.
Easier said then done sometimes, right? Sometimes it's really difficult to know which decision to make. In a culture that devalues intuition over compliance with external authority (religious, family and professional hierarchies, media image definition), how do we know what we should do? How do we develop the skills to make choices that increase positive outcomes over negative ones?
Which CHAKRA do you feel it in?
We can place focused awareness on each of the 7 Major CHAKRAS and observe the emotions that are activated as a result. These emotions act as guides to areas of emotional, psychological, physical, intellectual or sexual imbalance. Once illuminated, these imbalances can be corrected.
The CHAKRA System evolved out of observing physiological responses to particular emotional states. The emotion of love, for example, is associated with the physical heart because that's where we experience love. The CHAKRA System provides a developmental map that progressively examines 7 distinct states of being, love being one. The opposite ends of the System are solid matter at one end and pure consciousness at the other. Form and formless. The CHAKRAS in between are progressive variations from form to formlessness. We experience life as pure form and pure formlessness as well as everything in between.
Like people passing through progressive developmental stages as they age (infancy, childhood, teenager, young adult, etc.) the energy associated with each CHAKRA is built on the energy previously developed in the CHAKRA below it.
All 7 Major CHAKRAS taken as an integrated whole make up the
CHAKRA SYSTEM.
For us to have healthy physical bodies, we need to tune into how our body feels and make adjustments as needed to feel the way we want. If we twist our ankle, for example, we bring our attention to the area in pain and care for it so it starts to feel better. In the same way, our energy body needs to be healthy in order for it to function in a way that makes our life (inner and outer) feel better.
Knowing how to illuminate imbalances in the energy body is a subtle pursuit which requires a willingness to and a curiosity about bringing focused awareness to your inner experience. The CHAKRA SYSTEM provides a systematic approach to examining your life to illuminate areas in need of adjustment to bring them into balance leading to a more pleasant life experience.

Progressively Patterned
The CHAKRAS are aligned in a column from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each CHAKRA has its own set of associations which develop progressively from CHAKRA to CHAKRA. Each individual CHAKRA, then, delineates a different level of the human experience, the lower levels setting the foundation for understanding the levels above it.
This progressive pattern can be illustrated by looking at the CHAKRA'S corresponding elements and noting how these elements progress from the most dense form to the least dense, each level producing a greater level of freedom than the one below.
To follow the flow of energy through progressively greater levels of freedom, start at the bottom of the following list going from CHAKRA 1 to 7. Note how the elements give way to less concentrated forms of energy as you move up the CHAKRA Column:
ELEMENTS
CHAKRA 7: thought
CHAKRA 6: light
CHAKRA 5: sound
CHAKRA 4: air
CHAKRA 3: fire
CHAKRA 2: water
CHAKRA 1: earth
We can do the same with the progressive pattern of color in the visible light spectrum. Light is made of tiny "packets" of energy (electromagnetic radiation) that vibrate at a particular frequency. Remember, everything is made of energy and that energy (be it from a tree, a skin cell or a color) is vibrating. Red, the color with the lowest frequency on the visible light spectrum, is on one end of the chart and violet/purple, the color with the highest frequency, is at the other end.
COLOR
CHAKRA 7: purple
CHAKRA 6: indigo blue
CHAKRA 5: light blue
CHAKRA 4: green
CHAKRA 3: yellow
CHAKRA 2: orange
CHAKRA 1: red
Different colors of light have different wavelengths. Shades of purple have the shortest wavelengths (measured in nanometers or Angstroms). Purple light vibrates at about 400 nanometers per second while red light, with the longest wavelength, vibrates at up to 700 nanometers per second. Short wavelengths correspond to higher frequencies and higher energies, while longer waves oscillate at lower frequencies and carry less energy.
PSYCHOLOGICAL FUNCTION
The progressive pattern of the CHAKRA'S corresponding psychological functions is a quick way to understand how each CHAKRA delineates a different level of the human experience. Each CHAKRA focuses attention for a particular purpose. Here they are:
CHAKRA 7: understanding
CHAKRA 6: intuition
CHAKRA 5: communication
CHAKRA 4: love
CHAKRA 3: will
CHAKRA 2: desire
CHAKRA 1: survival
In western psychology, Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs illustrates the same concept in that the needs in the lower levels must be met in order for higher levels to begin their development. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs has 5 levels:
Level 5: Self-actualization: creativity, lack of prejudice, acceptance of facts
Level 4: Esteem: confidence, achievement, respect of others and by others
Level 3: Love/Belonging: friendship, family, sexual intimacy
Level 2: Safety: security of body, employment, resources, health, prosperity
Level 1: Physiological: breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, excretion
Physical needs that ensure basic survival must be met before moving on to pursue pleasure and spiritual enlightenment.
